I'm probably going to build a new PC soon.. Well maybe in a couple of months, but I just want to familiarize myself with certain things. Can you guys enlight me on parts I should get to get great performance? I don't want a PC that runs GTA V at 4k or anything too powerful. Just something than can run GTA V at normal graphics or something that can run DayZ at HD graphics while recording.

An AMD FX 6300 would do just fine or something similar from intel. Also for the GPU, I would suggest you GTX 960. As for the ram, as long as it is from a reputable manufacturer it should be fine. If you mix/match ram sticks, you might have some problems. For the ram amount, 8GB seems about the minimum these days for a gaming PC. There are bunch of 2x4GB sets of DDR3 that are decently priced. Hard Drive - If you got one already that you can use - just use that. If not, well, they're not overly expensive, that is if you don't want to go for an SSD.

Most importantly, do not cheap out on a PSU. That's the worst thing you can do, because if PSU dies, you do not know what will happen next. Read PSU reviews, buy psu from a reputable manufacturer and it should be ok.

As for the motherboard, it is all about what you want from it. You can get them for cheap, containing only bare minimum or get some other features, like USB 3.0/3.1 (Type-C), SATA 6Gbps, more expansion slots, better on-board audio etc.

I've got a lot to learn, but thanks Evil! I'm turning 18 no October and getting my credit card, maybe I can use that to buy my parts and hopefully you guys can help me out so more!  :)

You're welcome! Just don't get yourself in a debt.. xD

Nah I think I'll be fine with a dept of 1k, I'll pay like 200 a month haha. Is 1k enough for what I want?

Lemme compile a list of components from amazon.com. I'll assume you've already got peripherals (keyboard, mouse, monitor etc.) Take this as a suggestion. At the time of writing this, there are probably better parts somewhere. I'm using this list to approximate pricing. Also I'm excluding all the software from this list.

QuoteAMD FX-6300 - $90

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 - $80 (You can find similar motherboards around the same price, but I recommend ASUS due to their quality.)

Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB Kit - $36

EVGA 500 B1, 80+ BRONZE - $45

WD Blue 1TB - $50

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) - $250 (Even though I chose to include 1060 in the list, you might want to go with 960. It is considerably slower than 1060, but is cheaper as well.)

Case - Anything from $35 - $2000 (How much you wanna spend and how you wanna make your pc look.) Make sure the board fits in the case. (I'll take $50 in the calculation).

Total: $601 (give or take)

Take in consideration things like monitor and everything you might require with the system, which would be some extra costs.

Prices are changing all the time, so don't quote me on these prices. Look for deals when buying the hardware.

Boy, with 1k you can buy a pretty damn sick rig. Here's a quick list I put together:

using specs that will easily grant you GTA V on high settings while recording with shadowplay, 60+ fps no issues. As for DayZ, as long as you fidget around with the settings for a bit you can easily play on medium-high at round 60-80 fps while recording with no problem. DayZ is just shit in general when it comes to preformance.

Obviously you can play round with those parts such as change the case (just make sure it's an ATX case), switch up the mobo if you feel like, etc. Obviously if you wanna spend more, you can pick better parts.

I'm just wondering, how much do I really have to spend in order to get a decent PC? Something where I can record and play modern games at good enough FPS.

500-600 will get you a pretty good PC that you can run all new games on medium-high settings with no problems while recording via shadowplay.

Although it may be a good investment to throw in an extra $100 or $200 for more reliability in the long run.

Speaking of money, sajugs I just got paid. I'm going to wait until I get home to sort everything out money wise and see how much I have left to add onto my build
